April-May 2026 data refresh covering agencies that encrypted ahead of the federal CJIS audit enforcement deadline (October 1, 2026). Adds Galesburg IL, Knox County IL, Grand County CO Sheriff, and confirms Skagit County WA regional rollout data.

    Wichita PD and 16 Sedgwick County law enforcement agencies encrypted all channels on April 28 under FBI CJIS mandate. Fire and EMS channels unaffected. $1.8M grant-funded project.

    Grand County encrypted law enforcement, fire, and EMS simultaneously on May 22. Colorado's C.R.S. § 24-6-502 media-access law required a dedicated newsroom radio for Sky-Hi News.

How We Update the Database

Data Source

We use the RadioReference API to gather talkgroup encryption data. This provides real-time information about which radio channels are encrypted across public safety systems.

Verification Process

Each agency is matched against our existing database and verified for accuracy. New discoveries are flagged for review and added with appropriate metadata.

Update Schedule

We aim to refresh the database monthly, with priority given to states with known encryption activity. Emergency updates may occur when major encryption decisions are announced.
