About This Data
This database is compiled from the RadioReference Wiki, a community-maintained resource tracking encryption of public safety radio communications.
What's included: Agencies that encrypt their general dispatch and common public safety operations. This does not include agencies that only encrypt tactical or sensitive communications.
Encryption types: The most common is P25 AES-256. Once active, it blocks the public, journalists, and other first responders from monitoring communications entirely.
What Can You Still Monitor?
When police encrypt, other public safety agencies often stay open. Fire departments, EMS, weather alerts, federal channels, and neighboring jurisdictions frequently remain unencrypted — and accessible with the right scanner.
